We are pleased to team up with our friends at SaskOutdoors to bring you another innovative outdoor program. Our Damsels in Wilderness program is designed for young women ages 10 - 12 (trans and gender-fluid participants welcome!) who crave more outdoor time exploring, connecting with nature and developing their outdoor skills. Whether completing a stewardship project on the shoreline of the South Saskatchewan River, learning valuable navigation skills, or developing leadership skills through team-building challenges, this program provides a unique way to include fresh air wellness time into busy fall schedules. This program is hosted by SaskOutdoors with facilitation provided by Wildernook Fresh Air Learning.
The Experience: We will be hosting a minimum of two daytime experiences at nature sites in or near Saskatoon area.
These experiences are unique because they are led by experienced female outdoor education teachers who are experts in their fields. They bring years of experience teaching outdoors.
Our Autumn adventures include:
Trail cycling
Nature hikes
Navigation
Stewardship
Fire building
Team building challenges
Contemplative time in nature
We welcome curiosity and enthusiasm, but no previous experience is required in any of these areas.
Times: We will be offering day trip experiences, which are approximately six hours in length.
Cost: Each of the daytime trips will cost $40.00. This price includes learning materials, access to the specialized outdoor gear we will be using and mentorship from qualified outdoor educators.
Accessibility Pricing: $5.00. Our partner organization, SaskOutdoors will subsidize the cost of two participants who identify as Indigenous or newcomers to Canada. The goal of these subsidized spots is to increase the accessibility of the program. Please note, SaskOutdoors would like families making use of this support to follow up with a letter sharing about their experience. Please contact jana@wildernook.com if your family could benefit from one of these subsidized spots.
Requirements: Participants must provide their own water bottle, snack, day pack and rain or winter gear. Damsels in Wilderness is an active program and participants should be in good physical condition to enjoy themselves (e.g. able to comfortably run for 15 minutes and walk for 60 minutes).
We welcome curiosity and enthusiasm, but no previous experience is required in any of these areas.
